Databases are collections of digital materials such as online newspapers, magazines, journal articles, e-books and videos. Students and staff of Stenden get access to a lot of these databases by logging in with your Stenden account. Some databases are about a particular subject and others are articles and information on multiple topics.

The articles can be found by using the databases of NHL Stenden, but also via Google Scholar. The difference between Google and Google Scholar is that Google Scholar focuses on the scholarly literature available on the internet. These literatures are from academic publishers, professional societies and other websites. Google has a broader scope and has resources regardless of where online they come from.

When you are using a literature, you will need to apply the APA referencing. Referencing is a method of identifying the sources of information and ideas that you have used in your assignment. Referencing is necessary to avoid plagiarism and to verify quotations.

First you will need to collect bibliographic details of the source from which the information is taken. This information is the basis of a citation or reference which refers to the author/editor of the book/article, year of publication, title of the book/article, place of publication, publisher and page numbers.

Secondly, you will need to make sure there is an in-text citation, which is a citation inserted at the place within the text of the document. This mostly happens in form of the author's name, followed by the year of publication.

Finally, you will need to have a reference list. A reference list includes books, journal article that you cite in the text of your assignment. A reference or citation allows the reader to find the original book or article you have used and cited.
